SKGAA Newsletter 21/02/18

SKGAA Newsletter

A chairde,

The season has kicked off with the Junior Ladies playing the first competitive game of the year last Sunday and recording a good win. The Árus is a hive of activity every night these days with all teams back training. We would like to thank all coaches for being so accomodating with the regular closure of pitches and the moving around. Lots of information in this week's newsletter so please take the time to read through.

Cyber Bullying and Internet Safety Evenings

The club is hosting two talks next week on internet safety. Both talks are absolutely free and take place in the Galway Bay Hotel from 7.30pm on Monday for teenagers and Tuesday for parents and guardians. We have researched these talks for some time and are satisfied that the group providing these ones are very professional and have all the up to date information explained in easy language. Please spread the word and particularly encourage the teenagers to attend.

Registration

A quick note on registration. Thank you all for being so accomodating with regards our switch to online registration, but a gentle remider that all members must be registered to be covered by insurance should they get injured. This is especially important at this time of year with most teams going back training and playing matches again.

Ladies Football

Junior - The ladies team enjoyed a hard fought win over Micheal Breathnachs in Inverin on Sunday. Tough pitch conditions didn't hinder the brilliant display of football by Skgaa in what was an exciting match right to the end. Skgaa came out on top 3-10 to 4-5 and clinched a deserved win in the first round of their league campaign. Some great performances by all including those that have made the jump from u16 to Junior level.

Good turnout with 16 girls in attendance. On the Sunday Eight u16 girls joined forces with The Seniors Ladies and assisted in securing 1st Win of season with 3-10(19) to 4-5(17) hard earned win over Micheal Breatnachs in Inverin on Sunday. Well done U16 girls and Senior ladies. Indoor training continued Monday 19th with numbers swelled to 45 girls. Fantastic. Session well marshalled and delivered by Con Belle and coaches. Fixtures are out. First match due 11th March v Moycullen.

u10 - u10's girls (born in 2008 or 2009) start back next Wednesday 28th February 7-8pm in Arus.

Coaching Corner

Each section now has a club coaching officer and we are working together to ensure that all coaches have opportunities to learn, develop and share their knowledge and experience, across the four codes.

Well done to participants who recently completed Foundation Level hurling/camogie (3) and Foundation Level football courses (12) and to 9 club members who attended a special 6 hour workshop delivered by SAQ Ireland on Pre-Season Fitness and Strength & Conditioning Coaching. We have begun to gather feedback from all who attend coaching events, using SurveyMonkey questionnaires - thanks to those who have done so recently, and will use this feedback to plan future coaching events.

We are planning plan to have regular events for coaches over the next few months in our club, which will combine a talk with an opportunity to socialise. We aim to have these on/close to the last Friday of the month. We will launch this coaching initiative with a special event, our first Club Coaching Forum, taking place over 2 days on Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th March. Full details will follow shortly but on Friday 23rd there will be a talk/event which will be open to the whole club with a  high profile speaker, and on Saturday 24th there will be separate hurling/camogie and football coaching workshops (approx 90 minutes each). So put this date in your diary: don't miss what promises to be a most interesting event!

Meanwhile, if you are on Twitter, check out @GAAmeCoaching - excellent coaching tips, activities and plans.
